A U.S. Representative from Florida visited the southern border with Mexico where he discussed illegal immigration with those directly affected by it.
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) spoke with Steve Ronnebeck, whose son was murdered by an illegal alien in 2015. He said:
“January 22, 2015, my son Grant was working the overnight shift at a QT in Mesa. An illegal alien walked in, wanted to by cigarettes, dropped a jar of change on the counter. Grant would start counting the change, and evidently was not counting the change fast enough. This man said, ‘What, you’re not gonna give me my cigarettes?’ Grant said ‘Hey, you know, I’ve gotta count your change.’ This man pulled a gun, killed my son, and never did a day in prison. Not one day. Because he was able to plead it down, because he was a DREAMer, he had children who were born here, he was able to get a lesser sentence. I want to thank you all for coming down. Because what we’re seeing restores my faith that we’re gonna stop this.”
Wednesday, the Florida House of Representatives passed a bill that would ban sanctuary cities. It is headed to the Republican-controlled Florida Senate, and if it passes, will likely be signed into law by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis.
This action comes amid gridlock in Washington, D.C.
Big League Politics reported:
President Donald J. Trump has declared a national state of emergency, for which several heavily-blue states immediately sued his administration. Democrats refuse to budge on the issue, unwilling to secure America’s borders. As illegal border crossings surge, they blocked a meaningful amount of wall funding in the 2019 federal budget.
In what many conservatives see as a colossal failure, the Republican Congress, led by former Speaker Paul Ryan, current Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, failed to deliver wall funding to the president’s desk during all of 2017 and 2018, when Republicans held the House, the Senate, and the White House.
"The man who killed my son never did a day in prison. Not one day."
