WATCH: Trump Roasts Schumer Over Border Security In White House Meeting

President Donald J. Trump publicly roasted Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) in front of the media in a White House meeting Tuesday morning.

During the meeting, which included House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Vice President Michael R. Pence, Pelosi and Schumer first sparred over how to deal with border security in the context of a government shutdown before Trump took over the conversation and dominated Schumer.

Schumer started by blaming Trump for the last government shutdown, which the pair disagreed on, but Trump then said he’d happily shut it down again if it meant border security for the American people.

“You know what I’ll say? Yes – If we don’t get what we want, one way or the other, whether it’s through military, through anything you want to call it, I will shut down the government, absolutely,” Trump said.

“And I am proud – I’ll tell you what – I am proud to shut down the government for border security because the people of this country don’t want criminals, and people that have lots of problems, and drugs pouring into our country,” Trump continued.

“So I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down. I’m not going to blame you for it. The last time you shut it down, it didn’t work. I will take the mantle of shutting it down. And I will shut it down for border security,” he finished.
