Woke Wins: Jacksonville Confederate Monument is Removed
On December 27, 2023, a Confederate monument was taken down in Jacksonville, Florida. The monument in this case was a “Tribute to the Women of the Southern Confederacy”, which was previously located in Jacksonville’s Springfield park.
The park has been host to the statue since 1915. Mayor Donna Deegan gave her rationale for the removal of this statue. She declared the following:
“Symbols matter. They tell the world what we stand for and what we aspire to be. By removing the confederate monument from Springfield Park, we signal a belief in our shared humanity. That we are all created equal. The same flesh and bones, and the same blood running through our veins. The same heart and soul.”
Deegan added: “This is not in any way an attempt to erase history but to show that we’ve learned from it. When we know better, we do better by and for each other. My prayer today is for our beautiful city to continue embracing unity and bending the arc of history towards justice. Let’s keep lifting as we climb”.
This monument removal has been several years in the making. In the aftermath of the George Floyd mania of the summer of 2020, Deegan’s predecessor Mayor Lenny Curry issued an order to have a statue and plaque commemorating Confederate soldiers taken down from a separate public park.
Indeed, there has been an iconoclastic fervor among the political class since the Civil Rights Revolution. These people ultimately want to erase American history. They’re simply just going for low-hanging fruits such as the Confederacy.
However, the endgame is the erasure of the Historic American Nation and all white historical figures who contributed to the development of this once great nation.
