Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-IL), a moderate Democrat incumbent in Illinois’ 3rd Congressional district, is set to be defeated by progressive challenger Marie Newman, a hardcore socialist in the same vein as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and the rest of the Congressional “Squad.”
Politico announced that Lipinski was in trouble earlier in the day, but it was still uncertain whether he would actually be defeated by a challenger from his hard Left.
“Lipinski is liberals’ highest-profile 2020 primary target. Lining up behind Newman are Sanders, New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the Justice Democrats,” Politico reported.
The article noted the strength of the progressive movement, which is quickly becoming a juggernaut in the age when a devout socialist like Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) can be a top-tier presidential candidate in the Democrat Party.
“Her campaign, she said, has knocked on more than 110,000 doors and made 90,000 phone calls. She had outraised Lipinski by more than $400,000 as of late February, and that contrast is shown particularly stark on television. Newman has spent about $900,000 on television advertising, while Lipinski has dropped less than $450,000,” Politico reported.
According to the most recent reporting, Newman is currently winning with 22,559 votes or 46.5 percent of the margin. Lipinski has 21,642 votes or 44.6 percent of the margin with 59 percent of the vote currently being tallied. It is looking like Newman will ultimately become the Democrat nominee and therefore the defacto Congressman with it being extremely unlikely for a Republican to win the district.
A candidate profile of Newman highlights how extremely far-left her policies truly are.
“The Affordable Care act has made life easier for people and has brought insurance to over 20,000 people in my district. I would support any legislation meant to strengthen the program, but ultimately I believe that Medicare for All will give hard working families in my district the most security and peace of mind moving forward,” Newman said in the profile.
“I fully support the DACA program and HR 6 the Dream and Promise Act which, if passed by the Senate, would create a pathway to citizenship for nearly 2.5 million DREAMERs and those protected under the Temporary Protected Status designation,” she said of her immigration policy in support of amnesty.
“We need universal background checks for all gun sales, to reinstate the assault weapons ban, to require gun safety training with any issuance of a license and to pass red flag laws to prevent purchases of firearms by those who would be a threat to themselves or others,” Newman said about her hatred of the 2nd Amendment.
” I firmly support the framework of the Green New Deal and building a plan to fulfill that framework as a means to modernize our economy, to create good paying union jobs and to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2030,” she said about her environmental extremism.
The “Squad” is about to get bolstered with the likely election of Newman, as the demographic shift ushers in a new era of socialism with the fruits of diversity and multiculturalism on full display.
