During a press conference on March 12, 2022, Sinema hinted that the Biden administration has not prioritized stopping illegal immigration and drug trafficking making its way across the southern border.
“Nothing, there’s not been any active steps to stem the flow of migrants from the border,” Sinema said, per a report by KTAR News. “One of the things I’ve been working on with my colleagues in both parties is to discuss the fact that the current flow is unsustainable.”
“[Washington] D.C. has shown little regard for the actual crisis that’s occurring in Arizona, and we know that,” Sinema added. “We’ve paid the price for the federal government’s failure to fix our broken immigration system for most of my lifetime.”
At the moment, Sinema is calling for increases in the number of U.S. Border Patrol agents stationed at the southern border and funding for communication programs throughout Mexico and Central America to warn prospective migrants not to make the harsh trek to the southern border.
“The administration does need to take action,” Sinema stated.
“There hasn’t been as much movement on this as those of us in border states like Arizona and Texas have been calling for, for many years,” Sinema added.
John Binder highlighted how In 2021, over two million border crossers and illegal aliens reached the southern border. For 2022, experts are predicting that over 2.1 million are expected to arrive.
One of the more insidious aspects of the open borders agenda is how thousands of border crossers and illegal aliens are released into the American interior. Biden observed that “From January 2021 to August 2021, for example, more than half a million were released into the U.S. interior.”
Sinema’s comments reflect one of the few fissures that exists in an otherwise wokified Democratic Party. As a Senator of Arizona, a competitive border state, Sinema must do a careful juggling act. She cannot go too far to the Left on open borders lest she wants to ruin her electoral prospects in 2024.
What’s taking place across the border is a disaster of the highest order. If Republicans were serious about national security, they would be proposing an immigration moratorium and a deployment of military forces to shore up the border.
