Biden Signs Executive Order Directing Review of 9/11 Documents for Declassification

By Richard Moorhead

President Joe Biden signed an executive order directing the Department of Justice to conduct a comprehensive review of classified 9/11 documents for release to the public on Friday, in a move sought by families of those victimized in the deadliest terrorist attack in history.

The review won’t release all classified documents regarding the suicide bombing. 1,800 relatives of 9/11 victims had released a statement last month demanding that Biden deliver on a campaign promise to release classified 9/11 documents, suspicious of Saudi Arabian involvement in the funding, training and movement of those who carried out the attacks which killed almost 3,000 Americans. The 9/11 families had told Biden not to come to 20th anniversary memorial events unless he released new documents on the attack.

Since the conclusion of the 9/11 Commission in 2004 much investigative evidence has been uncovered implicating Saudi government officials in supporting the attacks,” the victims’ families said in a statement. “Through multiple administrations, the Department of Justice and the FBI have actively sought to keep this information secret and prevent the American people from learning the full truth about the 9/11 attacks.

Families of victims of the terrorist attack continue to press for transparency regarding the Saudi government’s relationships with 9/11 hijackers, and accountability for the Saudi government’s culpability in the attacks. The House of Representatives overrode a veto on the part of President Obama in 2016 to pass a law that would allow victims of terrorist attacks to sue sovereign nations for their involvement, a bill fiercely opposed by the Saudi government.

15 of the 19 perpetrators of the 9/11 hijackings were citizens of Saudi Arabia, with critics of the Islamist regime also alleging direct support for al-Qaeda that spanned years before the bombing rendered the terrorist organization a wartime enemy of the United States.
