Chinese Nationals are Illegally Crossing Southern Border at Increasing Numbers

By Jose Nino

Darrell Frost of Texas Scorecard noted that the number of apprehensions of Chinese nationals illegally crossing the southern border has grown by over 700% in  the past year.

However, a retired ICE agent claims he was informed that “this is nothing” compared to the number of such migrants heading to the border at the moment.

Per figures reported by United States Customs and Border Protection, Border Patrol agents at the US’s southern border encountered 2,999 Chinese nationals between October of 2022 and January of 2023 compared to 366 during the same time frame a year ago. This marks an increase of 719%. In the 2022 fiscal year — October 2021 to September 2022 — there were 2,176 encounters of Chinese nationals.

In January alone, there were 1,084 Chinese nationals apprehended compared to 89 in January of 2022. In sum, these figures represent a year-over-year increase of 1,118%.

However, retired ICE agent Victor Avila told Texas Scorecard that one of his Mexican sources informed him that thousands of Chinese nationals are going to the US-Mexico border from South America.

“Wait till March,” Avila’s source said to him.

Avila didn’t provide a specific motive for these Chinese nationals to travel to the US, but he believes they constitute a serious security threat, as Chinese Communist Party spies could be embedded among these migrants.

Avila claims to have talked to Chinese migrants who are paying up to $60,000 to be smuggled into the country.

“I don’t know how they do it, but they come up with the money,” stated Avila, adding that these Chinese nationals “absolutely” could be functioning as CCP assets.

Avila noted that Chinese nationals may appear “unassuming and innocent,” but he stressed “this is not the time to be judging books by their cover.”

“This is a national security issue … because we know who China is,” Avila added. “They’re our biggest adversary. … There wouldn’t be a reason why not to introduce nefarious people into these groups.”

Texans for Strong Borders President Chris Russo claimed that the border crisis doesn’t just feature “illegal immigration from Mexico or even Central America any longer—illegal aliens from over 150 countries have been arrested since President Biden took office just two years ago.”

He added, “Until the federal government enforces their laws or border states declare an invasion under Article I, Section 10 of the U.S. Constitution, the world will continue to flow through our southwestern border unabated. Our sovereignty, security, and very future as a nation are at stake.”

Avila echoes this concern.

“The Chinese are coming at us in every direction,” he noted. “They’re coming at us with the fentanyl through the cartels. They’re coming at us with spy balloons. Now they’re going to come at us just with their people.”

Forget conventional land invasions, China will exploit the US open borders’ system to project power. Most neocons and neoliberals are stuck on 20th century tropes and don’t recognize the unique challenges China poses to the US. None of these challenges require belligerent actions on the US’s part. All it needs to do is secure the border, restrict all forms of immigration, and decouple trade with China.

America First nationalism plain and simple. That kind of vision can only be possible via a real regime change in DC.
