Iran Claims to Have Built a Hypersonic Ballistic Missile

By Jose Nino

On November 10, 2022, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps published a statement announcing that it has built a hypersonic missile “capable of penetrating all defense systems,” per the account of the commander of the IRGC aerospace unit in charge of the missile development project.

General Amirali Hajizadeh said in a statement Fars news cited: “This hypersonic ballistic missile was developed to counter air defense shields.” According to ZeroHedge, “Hypersonic missiles can reach more than five times the speed of sound” and only a handful of countries possess such missile technology.

“It will be able to breach all the systems of anti-missile defense,” stated General Hajizadeh. “This missile, which targets enemy anti-missile systems, represents a great generational leap in the field of missiles,” the IRGC commander continued.

Currently, only three countries — China, Russia, and the United States — have hypersonic missiles. Russia, itself, has boasted of several successful launches and limited usage of said missiles inside of Ukraine during its current conflict with the neighboring Slavic country.

Iran has given the West fits due its unconventional mode of warfare where it relies on proxy forces and clever diplomacy — in aligning itself with China and Russia — to act as a counterbalance against Collective West overreach.

While the Iranian government is not something reasonable people would like to emulate, Iran remains a sovereign country that is willing to fight back when it’s threatened. Moreover, it poses no existential threat to the US.

With this in mind, the US should reconsider its policy with Iran, lest it wants to get itself embroiled in another military disastrous quagmire in the Middle East.
