Somali-born journalist Hodan Nalayeh traveled to her native country last week to debunk “stereotypes” and prove Somalia is beautiful and was subsequently killed by Islamic terrorists.
Nalayeh and her husband were among 26 people murdered by al-Shabab militants in Kismayo on Friday. The journalist, who was nine months pregnant was in Asasey Hotel, where politicians were discussing forthcoming regional elections, when jihadist gunmen stormed the scene.
A suicide bomber then detonated a vehicle outside the hotel.
Prior to the incident, Nalayeh celebrated returning to the African country for the first time in 30 years, posting a photograph on Instagram.
She frequently tweeted about Somalia, lauding how “it’s so clean & breathtaking.”
According to the Washington Post, Nalayeh returned to Somalia to disprove claims that Somalia is crime-infested and tell “uplifting” stories about her homeland.
One of Nalayeh’s Twitter followers commended her for “countering the doom narrative propagated by many about Somalia.”
Nayaleh’s death comes after Democrats resoundingly claimed President Trump is racist for arguing Somali-born, anti-Semitic Rep. Ilhan Omar is “lucky to be” in the United States, amid reports proving she defrauded U.S. immigration laws to be granted asylum.
