White House national security adviser H.R. McMaster’s deputy Nadia Schadlow is married to an employee of New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman’s mother.
These connections reveal the insular world that our foreign policy elites inhabit, in which the press and the players involved all travel in the same upper-crust circles, with no outside ideas managing to enter their privileged bubble.
Maggie Haberman covers the Trump administration and frequently writes about McMaster.
In May, Charles C. Johnson’s GotNews.com reported that H.R. McMaster was leaking to the mainstream media.
Two months earlier, in March, McMaster hired Nadia Schadlow, whom the Washington Post referred to as a “GOP foreign policy expert,” to serve as the National Security Council’s senior director for strategy.
McMaster and Schadlow are well-known neocon establishment types, and despised by Trump’s Deplorable base.
Nadia Schadlow is married to Philip Michael Murphy. When the two were married in 1993, Schadlow was working the Ukraine desk for the Secretary of Defense and Murphy was an editor at a Maryland-based publishing company that had purchased Regnery Publishing.
Schadlow and Murphy started a communications consulting firm called The Invisible Hand together, which Murphy ran from 2013 to 2016. In 2016, Murphy was hired as senior writer at Rubenstein.
Rubenstein describes itself as a “Strategic, results-oriented publicity & media relations” firm, based in New York City. New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman follows the firm on Twitter. Nancy Haberman is the executive vice president at Rubenstein, where her bio notes, “Has a family of journalists. And the kids she was home with now have kids of their own.”
Nancy Haberman, a “top Rubenstein exec,” is Maggie Haberman’s mother, according to New York magazine.
So, let’s recap.
H.R. McMaster has been accused of leaking. His deputy Nadia Schadlow is married to a senior writer at Rubenstein, where he works for New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman’s mom.
