Most Americans Believe Armed Teachers Would Make Schools Safer, Poll Finds

By Bo Banks

In an exclusive poll shared with The Daily Wire conducted by The Trafalgar Group in partnership with the Convention of States Action (COSA), the majority of Americans believe armed teachers who are properly trained would make schools safer.

The poll was conducted in the aftermath of the tragic shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, just last week.

According to COSA President Mark Meckler in a statement: “No shooting at a school is going to be stopped by gun control laws. They are going to be stopped by a variety of fairly simple on-site measures, including arming law-abiding citizens–in this case specifically teachers–and empowering them to protect our children, schools, and communities.”

“A majority of voters see this clearly, despite the relentless propaganda by people who want to confiscate the guns of law-abiding citizens,” he added.

Meckler is saying the data contradicts what left-wing talking heads are spouting in the wake of the Uvalde massacre. With some politicians and media pundits like NBC’s Chuck Todd calling to abolish the Second Amendment altogether.

Of 1,091 surveyed Americans who are expected to vote in the 2022 general election, 57.5% of respondents believe preventing well-trained teachers from carrying firearms in schools is “somewhat or much more dangerous.” While only 30.8% of respondents said the opposite.

The poll’s results were said to have a margin of error of 2.9%.

Meckler continued, “Self-defense is a bedrock of this Republic and our Constitution. The Founders were clear that defending those we love is the responsibility of the citizen first. So many deaths have been prevented by armed citizens, so why would we question the voluntary training and arming of teachers to protect those we love and care for the most?”

According to the data, arming properly trained teachers was the most popular position among all political breakdowns. As expected, 67.5% of Republicans said arming teachers who are properly trained would make schools safer, versus 19.4% saying the opposite. Republicans held the largest amount of support for the policy.

Democrats for the most part agreed, with “48.2% telling pollsters that armed and trained teachers made schools less dangerous versus 41.3%.”

When it boiled down to age groups, the youngest sample of 18-24-year-olds were also in favor of arming well-trained teachers with firearms. With nearly 62% agreeing that the policy would make schools much safer. Just 21% saw such a policy to be somewhat more dangerous.

Many Americans have been critical of the slow reaction time in handling the mass shooter at Robb Elementary. For example, first responders said one victim bled to death at the school and could have potentially survived if police had confronted and killed the shooter quicker.

Imagine how much faster the response time would have been if a teacher who was well-trained and equipped with a firearm had been on the scene.
