Michael Porter Jr., a small forward for the NBA’s Denver Nuggets, made a Twitter post on May 27, 2020 where he asked for people to pray for both George Floyd’s family and the police officers involved in this case.
Controversy kicked off on May 25, when a video Floyd was released which depicted him laying on his stomach in handcuffs as an officer placed his knee on Floyd’s neck to hold him down. Despite Floyd imploring that he couldn’t breathe, the officer kept his knee on Floyd’s neck.
Floyd would later die, and four officers involved in this incident ended up being fired by the Minneapolis Police Department.
Floyd was later declared dead, four officers involved have been fired by the Minneapolis Police Department.
Since then, riots have broken out throughout Minneapolis, where criminals have used Floyd’s death to engage in acts of Mayhem.
Porter Jr. tried to be a voice of reason when he tweeted, “As much as you pray for George family, gotta also pray for the police officer(s) who were involved in this evil. As hard as it is, pray for them instead of hate them…Pray that God changes their hearts.”
However, Siraj Hashmi, a writer for Washington Examiner, had to offer his $.02 on the matter.
Hashmi tweeted, “read the room michael.”
Nevertheless, it should be agreed upon by all reasonable Americans that rioting is not a form of protest and must be quelled immediately by the National Guard.
The most basic function of government is to maintain public order and rioting is the textbook example of disorder.
