According to a Rasmussen poll, roughly 20% of American voters believe that the value of college education has increased.
The poll found that 68% of American adults indicated that a college degree is at least somewhat important, which includes 25% who believe it’s very important. 25% don’t believe a college degree is important, with 6% who believe it’s not all important.
According to an CNBC report published in August, certain universities such as Brown,Tufts, and Yale have tuition costs of over $90,000. That said, 45% of American voters believe the value of a college education has reduced in quality in recent years, whereas just 21% believe the value has increased. 25% stated the value of a college education has stayed roughly the same.
Among voters who perceive a college degree to be very Important to finding a job in today’s economy, 44% of voters believe the value of a college education has increased and just 23% believe the value has diminished in the last few years. On the other hand, among voters who believe a degree is not at all important, only 6% believe the value of a college education has increased, whereas 72% say it has decreased.
As far as race is concerned, 69% of white voters, 80% of black voters, 61% of Hispanic voters, and 58% of other non-black minorities believe a college education is at least somewhat important to looking for employment in the current economy.
38% of Democrat voters, 50% of Republican voters, and 46% of independent voters believe the value of a university education has decreased in the last few years.
As far as income categories are concerned, those making north of $200,000 annually are most likely to view a college degree as important to finding a job. By contrast, those making below $100,000 are more likely to indicate that the value of a college education has diminished in recent years.
Higher education in the US is going through a state of stagnation. The combination of leftist infiltration of higher education in addition to permissive academic standards where universities graduate all sorts of incompetent and mediocre individuals. As a result, there’s a large-scale depreciation of degrees, as evidenced by the alarming number of people who are underemployed, working jobs that don’t require degrees.
Fixing this issue will require the US to thoroughly reform its education sector and ensure that only elite talent or individuals with lots of earning potential are allowed to pursue 4-year degree programs. College is simply not for everyone.
