Governor of Florida Ron DeSantis, though he says he’s focused on winning a second term in 2022, has not ruled out running for president in 2024.
Will Cain, one of the “Fox and Friends Weekend” hosts, asked DeSantis Sunday morning if he would throw his hat in the presidential ring. The governor laughed heartily and said, “We’ve got a great governor’s election in 2022, which will be very important for our state, and quite frankly I think […] it gives us the ability to keep the momentum going, so that’s what we’re focused on.”
“Focused on governorship, but is that ‘no’ for president?” Cain asked.
“That’s a ‘we have 2022 to worry about,'” replied DeSantis, thus leaving the door open for a possible 2024 candidacy.
The governor was seen Sunday night at the Super Bowl, which was played at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tampa’s defense smothered the Chiefs all night and the offense took advantage of several Chiefs defensive penalties to cruise to a 31-9 victory.
DeSantis is quickly becoming a nationally recognized political figure and would be a prime candidate for president, particularly if Donald Trump decides not to run. But 2024 is still a ways away and a lot can happen between now and then.
Big League Politics recently covered Governor DeSantis’ speech on proposed legislation to combat Big Tech, which included a snipe at Twitter and the media over their treatment of the Hunter Biden story near the end of the 2020 election.
