San Antonio Murder Fugitive Hijacks Bus, Shoots Two Officers Before Being Neutralized in Dallas Area

By Richard Moorhead

A San Antonio fugitive hijacked a bus and shot two police officers before being killed by law enforcement on Sunday.

Ramon Thomas Villagomez was already wanted for the murder of his ex-girlfriend and for an assault in Brazoria County. Dallas-area police first received reports of an armed man boarding a DART bus on Sunday morning, later hearing word that the man was shooting out the windows of the bus. He compelled the bus driver to drive away from law enforcement, holding the man at gunpoint.

Police went on to chase the bus through Richardson, Garland, Rowlett, and into Rockwall, with the suspect firing upon the authorities as he was pursued.

Video of the event showed police cars chasing the runaway bus down the highway:

Throughout the entire time of the pursuit, shots were continuously being fired from inside the bus to our officers, and our officers were returning fire,” said a spokesman for the Garland Police Department. “There was an immediate threat to and danger to the people on the bus. That’s why we were pursuing the vehicle.

The bus was ultimately stopped with the use of spike strips on the northbound lanes of the President George Bush Turnpike. Villagomez exited the vehicle, and was killed by gunfire from police shortly after.

Two officers were shot, receiving non-life threatening injuries in the course of the pursuit. A bus driver and the sole other passenger who were on the bus were unhurt.
