According to a leaked internal email from State Farm, the car insurance company planned on donating books that promote transgenderism to Florida schools and public libraries.
These books were reportedly intended for children as young as five years old, sparking massive backlash from parents who believe LGBTQ+ topics should be conducted at home. Not the classroom or library.
After the email surfaced, and outrage spread like wildfire across social media, State Farm changed its tune – canceling the book donation program altogether in a shocking 180 to avoid further controversy.
The infamous LibsOfTikTok Twitter account acquired and shared a mass email from the company to its staff on Monday stating “we will no longer support that program.”
So what started out as a round-about way to virtue signal and promote “inclusivity” quickly backfired into a PR nightmare for State Farm. As Twitter users were quick to call out the company for providing “grooming” material for school children.
Some of the books even teach kids to become trans and non-binary. Three of the titles included: “A Kids Book About Being Transgender,” “A Kids Book About Being Non-Binary,” and “A Kids Book About Being Inclusive”
“State Farm’s support of a philanthropic program, GenderCool, has been the subject of news and customer inquiries,” read the email from State Farm’s chief diversity officer Victor Terry.
“Conversations about gender and identity should happen at home with parents,” Terry continued. “We don’t support required curriculum in schools on this topic.”
Interestingly, the chief diversity officer appeared to have sided with the parents (who were threatening boycotts and cancelations) on this issue. Acknowledging, in a sense, that the books State Farm considered donating were too inappropriate for school.
The email went on, however, to provide cadence to the LGBTQ community that is expected to voice their outrage collectively over this decision in the next day or so. Pressuring State Farm to realign its partnership with GenderCool, an organization devoted to providing resources for parents to have LGBTQ+ conversations.
“We will continue to explore how we can support organizations that provide tools and resources that align with our commitment to diversity and inclusion,” the email from Terry added.
According to GenderCool, its goal is to “increase representation of LGBTQ+ books and support our communities in having challenging, important and empowering conversations with children age 5+.”
How their mission aligns with State Farm’s is a still mystery.
Now, the car insurance company is stuck between two parties that want two very different things politically.
It appears as though State Farm has backed down to the woke mob by siding with parents on this issue. But only time will tell for how this all ends up after the LGBTQ community puts on the pressure.
