The United States government has promised to provide Volodomyr Zelensky’s regime in Ukraine with $270 million in military aid to Ukraine after Russia destroyed several high mobility artillery rocket systems (HIMARS) in a recent phase of the Russo-Ukrainian conflict.
The White House made the $270 million military aid announcement on July 22, 2022, which features medium-range rocket systems and tactical drones.
According to Press TV, this military aid package consists of four HIMARS and 580 Phoenix Ghost drones.
The new package includes four HIMARS and up to 580 Phoenix Ghost drones, according to John Kirby, White House national security council spokesman.
“The president has been clear that we’re going to continue to support the government of Ukraine and its people for as long as it takes,” White House national security council spokesman John Kirby stated.
On top of that, the package contains roughly 36,000 rounds of artillery ammunition and additional ammunition for the HIMARS.
PressTV reported that this aid “will take the volume of the overall US military assistance to Ukraine under President Joe Biden’s administration to $8.2 billion, which is being paid for through $40 billion in economic and security aid for Ukraine approved by the US Congress in May.”
This latest round of military aid brings the total number of rocket launchers the US government has provided to Ukraine to 16 ever since Russia launched its military incursion into Ukraine on February 24.
The HIMARS is a mobile rocket launcher that can hit targets ranging from 40 to 300 miles away. The range that it can strike targets is based on the type of rocket that the HIMARS are equipped with. The rockets the US government is specifically sending to Ukraine can only reach targets that are only 48 miles away.
From July 5 to July 20, four HIMARS and one American reloading vehicle for the US-manufactured HIMARS were destroyed close to the town of Malotaranovka in the Donetsk oblast. Another HIMARS and transport vehicle were destroyed in Krasnoarmeisk according to Igor Konashenkov, the chief spokesman of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
Konashenkov continued by noting that a fourth launcher was destroyed in the eastern part of Konstantinovka in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), per state-owned media outlet Zvezda.
Western pundits have labeled the HIMARS as an alleged “game changer” in this conflict to fight Russia to the last Ukrainian.
Similarly, there are discussions in Washington of sending US-manufactured fighter jets to Ukraine.
On July 22, Kirby said that the decision of sending US jets to Ukraine will not be made immediately.
“It’s not something that would be executed in the short term,” Kirby stated.
Since the launch of Russia’s special military operation, the US and its satrapies in Europe have flooded Ukraine with military aid and imposed heavy sanctions on Russia. In Russia’s view, such actions will prolong the war and harden the nuclear power’s resolve in seeing this military operation through and extracting heavier territorial concessions from Ukraine.
Reasonable minds would try to have the West extricate itself from this conflict. It’s ultimately one that will have to be settled between Russia and Ukraine.
All in all, since Ukraine threw its lot with the West in the aftermath of the 2014 Euromaidan Revolution, it has only lost territory. This goes to show that Western elites do not care about Ukraine’s territorial integrity and want to use it as a sacrificial lamb in their struggle to bleed Russia out militarily and economically.
Anglo-American geopolitics is one devious mistress.
