WALL: Congressman Introduces Border Bonds Bill To Allow Citizen Funding

By Tom Pappert

A United States Congressman has introduced legislation that would allow patriots to crowdfund the U.S.-Mexico border wall through government bonds, as a GoFundMe campaign reveals Americans are more than willing to financially support the project.

U.S. Representative Steven Palazzo introduced legislation this week that would allow Americans to purchase revenue bonds to fund the southern border wall, explaining that Americans voted for increased border security in November of 2016, and are tired the Democrats’ “inaction” on the issue.

“During World War II, 85 million Americans purchased $185 billion in war bonds and financially supported our troops while they were defending our country, ” said Palazzo when revealing the bill, “This legislation would allow for the patriots of today’s era to help support American security in the same way as previous generations.”

“The American people are fed up with the political games,” Palazzo explained, saying that the bill “allows new alternatives for our citizens to support their values and defend our homeland.”

In addition to directing the Treasury Department to issue government savings bonds, referred to as “Border Bonds,” thereby allowing Americans to directly fund the border wall, the bill would set aside this revenue in a “Border Bonds Trust Fund” to be used exclusively on the southern border wall.

The legislation comes as Americans have expressed immense willingness to directly fund the border wall on the crowdfunding website GoFundMe.

Big League Politics reported that the campaign to raise $1 billion from direct donations received over $215,000 in its first day:

A man who set up a GoFundMe to build a wall at the Southern United States border has raised more than $215,000 in one day.

“My name is Brian Kolfage, I have a verified blue check facebook page as a public figure and I’m a triple amputee veteran,” said the page’s creator.

The page is called “We the People Will Build the Wall.”

Well into its second day on GoFundMe, the campaign has raised over $1 million to fund the southern border wall.

Big League Politics reported:

The GoFundMe for the wall at the Southern border of the United States has just surpassed $1 million of it $1 billion goal after being online for less than two days.

The total, which is increasing by the minute, was just over $1,025,000 at the time of publication of this article.
