WATCH: Carolyn Maloney APOLOGIZES To Biden For Remarks About His Potential 2024 Run

By Bo Banks

Whether or not President Joe Biden will run again in 2024 is one of the biggest looming questions for Democrats. His poll numbers are abysmal, however, finding someone that can motivate voters enough to beat a potential Trump re-run is a major challenge.

Regardless, there are numerous examples of Democrats refusing to go on the record to endorse another term for Joe Biden. Take AOC for example.

Another example was Rep. Carolyn Maloney, who recently said on Tuesday that she didn’t think Biden would run for re-election in 2024.

The day after that comment, Maloney issued a tweet-thread declaring her support for President Biden.

“I will absolutely support President Biden, if he decides to run for re-election,” she quickly walked back in her post.

On Thursday, Maloney apologized and groveled on CNN.

“Mr. President, I apologize,” she shared. “I want you to run. I happen to think you won’t be running, but when you run or if you run, I will be there 100%. You have deserved it.”

The interview with CNN anchor Brianna Keilar continued with Maloney adding, “you are a great president, and thank you for everything you’ve done for my state and all the states and all the cities in America.”

“Thank you, Mr. President,” she concluded.

Maloney is in a hotly contested Democratic primary for New York’s 12th Congressional District against Rep. Jim Nadler and Suraj Patel.

“Carolyn Maloney is on an embarrassing, multi-day flip-flop non-apology tour where she’s now walked back her walk back,” Patel’s campaign mocked in a press release, according to Yahoo.

Like AOC, Maloney was trying to toe the line between showing support for the current President without acknowledging his failing platform.

It’s a difficult balance and one that many Democrats are still trying to figure out. Which is why most talking heads aim to avoid the question entirely or deflect to various other topics that focus more on the party’s vision for the future instead of the present day.

“Yeah, you know, I think we should endorse…when we get to it,” AOC said on CNN. “But I believe that the president has been doing a very good job so far. And, you know, should he run again, I think that I — you know, I think it’s — we’ll take a look at it. But right now we need to focus on winning a majority instead of a presidential election.”

Joe Biden and his failed policies are solely hurting Democrats’ chances for the 2022 midterms. Candidates realize that and are hoping to distance themselves as far from the President as they can without tarnishing their political image.
