Many years after Democrat-affiliated predator Jeffrey Epstein was convicted of sex crimes, Conservative Inc. was shilling for the man in their most hollowed publication, praising his business acumen and his record of philanthropy to the sciences.
The National Review, the ‘Never Trump’ headquarters heading up to the 2016 presidential election, released a gushing profile of Epstein in 2013, written by Christina Galbraith, who was listed as a science writer by the publication but was in actuality Epstein’s publicist.
“The study of evolution is always moving, but nowhere has it been livelier than in Brattle Square, where, ten years ago, a financier named Jeffrey Epstein set up the Program for Evolutionary Dynamics with a $30 million gift to the university, $6.5 million of which was a current-use gift to the PED,” Galbraith wrote about the generosity of her boss.
She noted that Epstein helped fund scientists such as “Stephen Hawking, Marvin Minsky, Eric Lander, George Church, and Nobel laureate physicists Gerard ’t Hooft, David Gross, and Frank Wilczek” to promote his record of philanthropy. He is presented as a pioneer, rather than a predator, by the William F. Buckley-founded magazine.
Going through the writing, it becomes rather obvious that it was written by an author with much invested in whitewashing Epstein’s record. The underlying scientific basis of the article is just a veneer so the alleged virtuosity of this sex criminal can be promoted.
“Epstein is first and foremost a problem solver, interested in strategy and intellectual puzzles,” Galbraith wrote, before adding that he “has given thoughtfully to countless organizations that help educate underprivileged children, notably in the U.S. Virgin Islands, where his foundation is based.”
Galbraith did mention Epstein’s scandals, but only as a quick aside before going back into promoting the seedy financier and his contributions to scientific achievement.
“And while Jeffrey Epstein remains an obscure figure, tarnished now by a series of scandals involving underage women, one of which led to an 18-month jail sentence, he is nonetheless the talented catalyst, the accelerator of all this medical discovery,” she wrote.
“We took down the piece, and regret publishing it,” National Review editor Rich Lowry said in lieu of his fledgling, irrelevant publication being embarrassed by this news.
According to a New York Times report, HuffPost and Forbes also published similar pro-Epstein puff pieces following his conviction for sex crimes.
The National Review, which has portrayed itself as the principled standard bearer of true conservatism for generations, has shown that they will do public relations for a confirmed left-wing sex predator if it helps their bottom line.
