Three House Republicans voted with Democrats to raise the federal minimum wage to $15. This move will ensure that low-skilled workers remain unemployed and compel many companies to embrace automation much faster if this bill is passed into law.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi claimed that the passage of this bill is “about workers, it’s about their economic and financial security, and today is a bright day because it affects so many people in our country.”
The three Republicans who voted for the minimum wage hike were:
Florida Rep. Francis Rooney
Pennsylvania Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick
New Jersey Rep. Chris Smith
Curiously, Brian Fitzpatrick and Chris Smith voted for H.R. 8, the universal gun registration bill, earlier in February. This bill represents the largest expansion of gun control at the federal level since the Brady Act was passed in the 1990s.
But it doesn’t stop there.
Fitzpatrick and Smith voted for The American Dream and Promise Act, a mass amnesty bill that would shield illegal immigrants from deportation and give millions a pathway to permanent citizenship.
These votes show that there are still Republicans in Congress that will betray their conservative constituents by voting for leftist legislation. Grassroots activists should remember these names during primary season. Bad political behavior should never be rewarded and should always be met with grassroots pushback.
These Republican districts deserve conservative alternatives that will help President Donald Trump advance his America First agenda.
