According to the current X/Twitter owner Elon Musk, Twitter’s previous leadership heavily “suppressed” conservative content. He specifically mentioned Republicans as key targets, who were allegedly censored tenfold in comparison to liberals and leftists.
“Republicans were suppressed 10 times the rate of Democrats,” Musk stated. “Now, that’s because old Twitter was fundamentally controlled by the far left. It was like, completely controlled by the far left.”
Musk made these revelations on Joe Rogan’s podcast, where he took subtle swipes at Twitter founder Jack Dorsey and former CEO Parag Agrawal for their role in presiding over mass censorship.
Musk described the previous Twitter regime as a de facto appendage for the federal government in terms of how it pursued a censorship agenda that aligned with the DC regime’s agenda in addition to advancing culturally leftist memes.
The founder of Tesla said that he ultimately bought Twitter to save mankind from what he views as a proverbial “zombie apocalypse.”
Musk asserted that there is a “mind virus” spreading via an “information technology weapon” that could bring about the collapse of civilization.
As Musk noted, he viewed his Twitter purchase as a move to support and preserve free speech.
Rogan congratulated Musk for his actions to prevent a further erosion of free speech rights. “It was important to have at least one social media outlet that wasn’t canceling people,” Musk argued.
Indeed, Musk has his flaws. But his purchase of Twitter has opened up free speech rights in ways previously unimaginable. Social media has largely been captured by anti-free speech forces. With Twitter at least under the control of nominally pro-free speech actors, some semblance of free discourse will exist on the platform.
This simply would not have been the case under the leadership of Dorsey’s Twitter. Free speech advocates need to continue encouraging Musk to stay the course and protect free speech at all costs.
