Harvard University President Claudine Gay recently launched an anti-Semitism advisory board to address the growing problem taking place at the university, per a report by The Harvard Crimson.
Gay has been subject to harsh criticism for her flaccid support of Jewish students in the aftermath of the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel and the subsequent anti-Zionist demonstrations that have sprouted at universities nationwide.
The Harvard Crimson’s report on this development hints at the establishment of the advisory board serving as a response to the growing backlash against Harvard for not taking a sufficiently pro-Zionist stance.
Republicans have used the growing cases of anti-Semitism on university campuses to grill university presidents and administrators. While militant groups like Hamas should be attacked for their behavior, free speech needs to be protected on university campuses no matter what. Yes, that means the speech of pro-Hamas sympathizers and even pro-Israeli settler/hard Right sympathizers should be protected.
The Right would be wise to not pile on this campus anti-Semitism drama. It’s just the latest neoconservative, pro-Zionist plot to dissipate otherwise legitimate, right-wing nationalist energy.
From the looks of it, it appears that this campaign is going to be used to shut down free speech so that pro-Zionist forces in America can continue to pull off machinations without any form of pushback. Namely, anyone who questions the US’s “special relationship” with Israel will likely be subjected to censorship. These schemes must be opposed at all costs if we want to revert to a sane foreign policy and have our country free of subversive influences.
