Senator Josh Hawley is calling for Attorney General Merrick Garland to resign in the aftermath of a scandal in which the National School Boards Association admitted working with the White House to secure an FBI investigation of parents who oppose critical race theory indoctrination in public schools.
“Merrick Garland mobilized the FBI to intimidate parents without legal basis and, we now know, premised on misinformation he didn’t bother to verify,” Hawley tweeted on Saturday. “It was a dangerous abuse of authority that has badly compromised the Justice Dept’s integrity and Garland’s. He should resign.”
Non-profit Parents Defending Education obtained email this week revealing that senior operatives of the National School Boards Association sought White House guidance in drafting a letter accusing CRT critics of terrorism, addressed to President Biden and Attorney General Garland. NSBA executives also seriously questioned the veracity of ‘terrorism’ allegations leveled at parents who oppose left-wing school boards in communications after the letter was published.
The NSBA finally apologized for the letter on Saturday, indicating that the federal investigation into critics of CRT is little more than a political fishing expedition conducted at the behest of a progressive organization admittedly slandering its opponents.
Garland had opened an FBI investigation into concerned parents days after the letter was sent, raising questions about his independence as Attorney General. The son of the Supreme Court wannabe is an executive of a company that designs and markets critical race theory curriculum to public school districts, all but ensuring Garland’s recusal from all CRT-related investigations would be proper under ethical standards.
