450 Rent-a-Jihadists from Idlib Are Sent to Ukraine

Approximately, 450 Islamic extremists, predominantly hailing from Arab countries, touched down in Ukraine from Idlib, Syria, per a report by Al Mayadeen.

These Islamic fighters landed in Ukraine with the express purpose of combating Russia’s military units, who are currently engaged in an invasion of Ukraine. The foreign fighters left Syria and went through Turkey.

According to Sputnik, the relatives of the extremist fighters arriving in Ukraine revealed that seasoned fighters from the terrorist organization Hayat Tahrir al-Sham held several meetings with leading officials in the Turkistan Islamic Party group along with the Ansar Al-Tawhid and Hurras al-Din groups. The groups agreed to letting several of their fighters enter Ukraine via Turkey.

For those with short-term memory, HTS is the rebranded version of the Al Nusra Front, an Al-Qaeda affiliate. These same sources also noted that these foreign fighters are veterans of the Syrian war, and were actively creating unrest in Idlib. With the Russo-Ukrainian war kicking off, these militants now have an opportunity to get a fresh start and make money per the report from Al Mayadeen.

HTS also promised these fighters that their families would have the ability to join them later on.

Approximately, 300 of these fighters are of Syrian origin and hail from rural parts of Idlib and Aleppo. The other 150 individuals are of Belgian, British, Chechen, Chinese, Moroccan, and Tunisian nationalities.

Reportedly, the fighters coming from Syria are expected to receive roughly $1200 to $1500. There are reports of growing numbers of foreign mercenaries hailing from Albania, Croatia, and Kosovo who are going to fight in Ukraine. The last of the aforementioned countries has a significant number of Islamic militants. These troops have significant experience fighting in Syria.

The Atlanticist foreign policy establishment has a long history of supporting Jihadists to confront Eurasian powers such as China and Russia. In the latter case, this transnational Jihadist network will likelly be used again to try to give Russia a black eye in Ukraine.

It remains to be seen if Russia will get ahead of this and stop the Atlanticists’ in their tracks.
