Abortion Bans ‘Cynical, Grotesque, Lacking in Compassion’

Abortion Bans Lacking in Compassion-

On Thursday, Representative Madeleine Dean (D-PA) declared that Republican-led state legislatures banning abortion were “cynical, grotesque, lacking in compassion.

These comments were made during an interview between Dean and anchor Nicolle Wallace during an airing of MSNBC’s “Deadline.”

“As the United States Supreme Court appears poised to overturn Roe versus Wade as soon as next month, Republican state legislators are rushing to pass abortion bans. And these bans are becoming more and more extreme,” Wallace said.

“Today, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a 15-week abortion ban into law. It contains a chilling requirement that all abortions must be reported to the state along with the reason why they were performed,” she continued. “All of them.”

As Wallace noted, these bans would have no exceptions. Meaning even abortions that were performed because of “rape” or “incest” must still be reported to the sunshine state.

Perhaps that part is what fired up Dean, as she responded saying, “These are grotesque add-ons to what happened with the Texas law that we saw months ago.”

Abortion Bans Lacking in Compassion

She continued, “Banning abortion after six weeks and, of course, in anticipation of what the Supreme Court might do as they complicity allow the Texas ban to go forward as they decide whether or not to overturn Roe v. Wade.”

Dean then went on to call out Republicans, especially male ones, dubbing these decisions “grotesque” and “obviously by Republican-controlled majorities and Republican governors.”

“I might note how predominantly male the folks are who are passing these laws,” Dean proclaimed. “They have nothing to do with health care.”

This enhanced rhetoric regarding abortion bans comes at a time when the Supreme Court reversal of Roe V. Wade is still on the table. Many democrat talking heads know this, and have already begun working towards smearing those who oppose abortions as people who “lack compassion.”

“[The bans] have nothing to do with the laws or the constitutional right to abortion, to abortion services because abortion services are health care services,” Dean shared. “These are cynical, grotesque, lacking in compassion and understanding of what abortion services are, political moves by governors and legislators.”

“Sadly Republican majorities in my own state have tried these same things. I know following this Supreme Court decision will try it again if they remain in the majority,” Dean concluded.

Some anticipate Roe V. Wade could be overturned as early as June of this year, which has abortion activists on high alert. These same activists have been working to ensure that if Roe is overturned, abortion remains legal in their state.

This strategy appears to be two-fold. The first being to put forth as much pro-abortion legislation as possible in an effort to make it more difficult for future bans to be put into place. The second being a more long-term strategy of packing the Supreme Court with justices who will rule in their favor should another challenge to Roe V. Wade arise.

It’s clear Dean falls into the latter category, and her fearmongering rhetoric is likely only going to intensify in the coming months. In addition to other democrats once their party’s new talking points coming out.
