AG: Justice Department’s Review of Russian Collusion Probe Turns Into Criminal Investigation
Attorney General William Barr’s probe into the Russian collusion investigation’s origins has turned into a criminal investigation, according to a New York Times report.
Connecticut U.S. Attorney John Durham started the review in May, and the precise date of when it turned into a criminal investigation is unclear. The change in the nature of the effort may indicate that serious proof was found of illegal behavior by rogue members of the federal deep state.
Durham now has the power to subpoena testimony from witnesses relevant to the investigation, create a grand jury, and levy criminal charges.
The fake news media is already freaking out over the news.
“This is the Justice Department investigating itself, potentially bringing criminal charges against its own officials. That itself would be — that would get you a page in the history books under any circumstances. Under these particular circumstances, it’s — this is stunning,” MSNBC host Rachel Maddow said on her show Thursday night.
It was bad enough Trump and Barr were wasting resources on this. But now they are fully weaponizing DOJ for political purposes.
Attorneys General *can* be impeached. https://t.co/Pm2sJaXjRw

It has always been extremely clear that Trump viewed DOJ as a vehicle to protect himself and his allies and punish his foes. Barr is just willing to carry that out. And the Fox propaganda apparatus is there to point out targets and stir up confusion.

Democratic officials are panicking over the possible ramifications of this news as well.
Yes, Barr must be disBarred. But let’s stay focused: all evidence suggests @realDonaldTrump used your money to extort Ukraine. Nothing matters more than holding him — and him first — accountable. Stunts like this are Trump-directed distraction devices. https://t.co/UOMcBzaaf3

Special Counsel investigation resulted in:
-34 indictments
-8 convictions/guilty pleas
-A finding that Russia interfered in US elections in a sweeping & systematic mannerAG Barr of @TheJusticeDept is now essentially trying to say that none of that should have happened. Really? https://t.co/1yF3pMI24M

AG Barr is our it control. Barr is trying to dismantle our justice system brick by brick solely to bodyguard trump. Barr should be impeached and stripped of his law licenses. https://t.co/9qU9uSpy1g

While the Democrats are desperate to discredit this ongoing criminal investigation, they conveniently overlook the fact that Durham has a sterling reputation.
Before Barr called upon Durham to lead the probe, Democratic senators from the state of Connecticut praised him effusively as a man of impeccable character when he was nominated to the post of U.S. attorney:
It will be difficult for Democrats to impugn the reputation of Durham, who has an unblemished record of public service going back decades.
Sens. Dick ‘Da Nang’ Blumenthal (D-CT) and Chris Murphy (D-CT) even wrote a gushing endorsement of Durham after Trump nominated him as a U.S. attorney in 2017.
“John Durham has earned immense respect as a no-nonsense, fierce and fair prosecutor, and we are pleased that the White House has agreed with our recommendation that he serve as United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut,” Blumenthal and Murphy said.
The left-wing, anti-Trump officials talked about Durham’s exemplary record and praised him effusively.
“As an Assistant United States Attorney, John Durham has proven himself time and time again in some of the most challenging and sensitive cases,” they said.
In their press release, Blumenthal and Murphy advertised Durham’s record of qualifications including his work “on the U.S. Department of Justice’s Boston Strike Force on Organized Crime, where he led the high-profile prosecution of former Supervisory FBI Special Agency John J. Connolly and mob bosses James “Whitey” Bulger, and Stephen “the Rifleman” Flemmi.”
The Democrats are clearly terrified of what Durham has uncovered, as the chickens are coming home to roost following their failed coup attempt against President Donald Trump.
