Another Chinese Virus Lockdown, This Time in Ohio

On Sunday, March 22, 2020, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, Health Director Amy Acton, and Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted issued a “stay at home” order which requires all Ohioans to stay at home in order to contain the spread of the Wuhan virus. There are exceptions for essential outings, but the order also closes down non-essential businesses in accordance to the Department of Homeland Security’s definition.
DeWine believes that this is a “common sense” measure and has made exceptions in the state order which allow for people to leave their homes for groceries, carry-out meals, medical supplies, and other essentials. People are also allowed to go outside for physical exercise and are allowed to take care of family members, friends, and pets who may be in other homes and require care.
Essential business that stay open must abide by health and safety protocols, which include social distancing and regular cleaning.
DeWine stressed that these protocols will now be part of an order, “not a suggestion.” Local health departments and law enforcement can now enforce these protocols.
California, New York and Illinois, in addition to New Jersey, Connecticut and Louisiana, have all implemented similar versions of this state order. Ohio’s will go into effect on Monday, March 22, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. It is expected to last until April 6., although the date is subject to change.
