Anti-Trump British Ambassador Who Caused Diplomatic Spat with U.S. Resigns in Disgrace
British ambassador to the United States Kim Darroch recently caused an international incident, drawing the wrath of President Donald Trump, after cables were leaked of Darroch calling the Trump administration “dysfunctional” and “inept.”
“We don’t really believe this administration is going to become substantially more normal; less dysfunctional; less unpredictable; less faction riven; less diplomatically clumsy and inept,” Darroch said in a leaked memo from 2017.
As a result of his diplomatic blunder, Darroch was forced to resign in disgrace earlier today.
“Since the leak of official documents from this embassy there has been a great deal of speculation surrounding my position and the duration of my remaining term as ambassador,” Darroch wrote to Simon McDonald, head of the Foreign Office.
“I want to put an end to that speculation. The current situation is making it impossible for me to carry out my role as I would like,” he added.
“I have told him it is a matter of great regret that he has felt it necessary to leave his position as ambassador to Washington,” said Prime Minister Theresa May, who stood by Darroch throughout the scandal.
“The whole Cabinet rightly gave its full support to Sir Kim,” who “has given a lifetime of service to the UK and we owe him an enormous debt of gratitude,” she added.
Trump released tweets on Monday, not only disavowing the former ambassador but also trashing May who will soon be leaving office.

….thought of within the U.S. We will no longer deal with him. The good news for the wonderful United Kingdom is that they will soon have a new Prime Minister. While I thoroughly enjoyed the magnificent State Visit last month, it was the Queen who I was most impressed with!

He doubled down with even more condemnation toward the globalists in charge of Britain, who are hemorrhaging public support after mishandling the Brexit deal, on Tuesday.

…handled. I told @theresa_may how to do that deal, but she went her own foolish way-was unable to get it done. A disaster! I don’t know the Ambassador but have been told he is a pompous fool. Tell him the USA now has the best Economy & Military anywhere in the World, by far…

….and they are both only getting bigger, better and stronger…..Thank you, Mr. President!

“I am grateful to all those in the UK and the US, who have offered their support during this difficult few days. This has brought home to me the depth of friendship and close ties between our two countries. I have been deeply touched,” Darroch wrote in his resignation letter.
“I am also grateful to all those with whom I have worked over the last four decades, particularly my team here in the US. The professionalism and integrity of the British civil service is the envy of the world. I will leave it full of confidence that its values remain in safe hands,” he added.
Despite Darroch’s lip service, he is leaving his post in disgrace after straining relations between Britain and the U.S. with his anti-Trump agitating. His replacement under a new Tory leader, such as the pro-Trump Boris Johnson, would be wise to be more diplomatic than his predecessor.
