Arizona Governor Doug Ducey Signs Bill to Ban the Enforcement of Unconstitutional Gun Control Laws within State Borders
On April 6, 2021, Arizona Governor Doug Ducey signed a bill that would prohibit the enforcement of anti-Second Amendment laws coming from the federal government within Arizona’s jurisdiction.
According to the Associated Press, HB 2111 would “prohibit police and sheriffs from enforcing federal gun laws that violate the 2nd Amendment.”
AWR Hawkins of Breitbart News noted that “Ducey signed the legislation Tuesday despite petitions against it from Mike Bloomberg-affiliated Everytown for Gun Safety.”
Several law enforcement officials such as Maricopa County Sheriff Paul Penszone criticized the bill, arguing that “it will create confusion or challenges more than benefits or protecting the Second Amendment.”
Penzone described the bill as “arbitrary,” and stated, “I’m just a little bit confused as to what value it offers.”
Since 2010, when Arizona passed Constitutional Carry, Arizona has emerged as one of America’s most Second Amendment-friendly states. According to Guns & Ammo rankings for the best states for gun owners, Arizona is ranked in 1st place.
In passing HB 2111, Arizona has only further cemented its reputation as a Second Amendment powerhouse. Other red states should follow in Arizona’s footsteps.
