Authoritarian Tyranny in Canada Continues

As Coronavirus restrictions continue to ease in some parts of the United States, many other counties in the world continue to grow more oppressive. A man in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada learned this the hard way.

At around 6:30 pm on Monday, May 10th, members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) conducted a traffic stop on a car they claimed was speeding. The license plate of the car indicated the driver resided in a different Canadian province.

The driver explained to police that he was from Halifax, and came to Cape Breton to hike the Skyline Trail, located in Cape Breton Highlands National Park.

According to the RCMP, the man was charged for non-essential travel outside of the municipality where he resides, with the Health Protection Act being used as legal justification. The ticket carries a fine amount of $2,422.

“The RCMP is reminding everyone to follow all public health orders and municipal bylaws. We all need to do our part to reduce the spread of COVID-19,” the RCMP wrote in a news release on Thursday.

Canada has been enduring very strict and draconian lockdowns as of late, with recent lockdown extensions in Ontario and Manitoba. Some of these restrictions include not allowing in-person dining or, disallowing any kind of visits to private residencies, complete closure of salons and gyms, and the banning of outdoor sports entirely. Indoor religious gatherings have been prohibited as well, notably resulting in the arrest of Canadian Pastor Artur Pawlowski. Pawlowski was put into custody for holding church services amid Canadian lockdown orders.

“We’ve done this before and I know that Manitobans can do it again. This time, we do see that hope. We do see a summer where we have high vaccine uptake and low COVID numbers,” Chief Provincial Public Health Officer Dr. Brent Roussin said at a Friday evening news conference.

Public health experts urging draconian measures that violate human rights with the promise that if everybody just complies, things will eventually go back to normal by at some to-be-determined date. Where have we heard this one before?
