Barstool President Dave Portnoy Demands that Politicians No Longer Profit from Public Office

Political sanity often comes in the strangest of places. Dave Portnoy, the founder and president of Barstool Sports, has been an unlikely source of wisdom in recent times.
On October 21, 2021, Portnoy called on politicians to renounce the practice of profiting from public office.
Portnoy quote tweeted a previous tweet of his, where he originally tweeted, “If you are an elected official you and spouse and children shouldn’t be allowed to own individual stocks period.”
Portnoy then tweeted, “You also shouldn’t be able to profit off your position during or after term. No books,paid speaking gigs etc. We’d see who truly wants to help and who wants to use political office for personal gain.”
This comes at a time when politician’s family members — namely, President Joe Biden — have used their parent’s privileged political role to score sweet business deals. The case of Hunter Biden using his father’s position of Vice President to land himself a spot on the board of Burisma Holdings, a leading producer of natural gas in Ukraine, was telling.
We also see the cases of Hilary Clinton, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama commanding extravagant speaking fees after holding public office. In the case of Obama, he also enjoys co-hosting a popular podcast with musician Bruce Springsteen. Contrast that to early presidents of the American Republic like Thomas Jefferson, who died largely indebted.
Public service in America has been completely corrupted and it will likely take an outsider like Portnoy to restore any kind of integrity when it comes to holding public office.
