Bernie Sanders Uses New Zealand Shooting to Call for ‘Assault Weapon’ Ban

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) has wasted no time exploiting the tragedy in New Zealand to push his socialist agenda to eviscerate the Bill of Rights and invalidate the Second Amendment of the Constitution.

Sanders is calling for the ban of so-called assault rifles, one of which was used by killer Brenton Tarrant as he slaughtered 50 Muslims during last week’s terrorist assault at two New Zealand mosques:

He is joined by far-left Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who applauded New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Arden for not even waiting for the bodies to get cold before announcing a firearm ban.

While it is expected for a radical socialist to oppose gun rights, Sanders does have a record of standing for the 2nd Amendment in the past. His home state of Vermont has a rural culture that supports gun rights, and Sanders – always the pandering politician – played to that constituency to stay in public office.

Sanders has frequently shown a willingness to support gun rights if he feels it may help him boost his independent credentials. He actually voted against the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act when it came up on the US House floor back in 1993. He also voted in favor of legislation protecting gun manufacturers from frivolous lawsuits designed to put them out of business as a Senator.

Now that he thinks he might be able to win the Presidency, Sanders is aggressively disavowing his previous record of actually standing for the Constitution. He made it clear from his announcement speech for his 2020 presidential run that crushing firearm freedom is a central tenet of his divisive campaign of class warfare.

“I’m running for president because we must end the epidemic of gun violence in this country. We need to take on the NRA, expand background checks, end the gun show loophole, and ban the sale and distribution of assault weapons,” Sanders said.

Radical Marxists can always be relied upon to turn their backs on freedom when it counts. The rise of Sanders as a viable presidential contender is emblematic of the new radical shift the Democratic Party is taking. The only thing standing in the way of their extreme socialism is President Donald Trump.
