Biden Campaign Asserts that YouTube’s Censorship Changes are Reckless

The re-election campaign of President Joe Biden declared that YouTube’s move to get rid of its election “misinformation” censorship policy is “reckless” and could lead to a surge in violence. The policy prohibited content creators from making claims about election fraud taking place in the 2020 presidential election. However, YouTube changed that policy in June,

“YouTube’s reckless and irresponsible decision will invite further democratic decay and potential violence, and we urge them to reconsider this policy,” declared Kevin Munoz, the spokesperson for Biden’s re-election campaign.

On June 2, 2023, YouTube announced that it would stop taking down videos that featured claims of election fraud in the 2020 presidential election cycle.

YouTube claims that while the policy did prevent “some misinformation, it could also have the unintended effect of curtailing political speech.”

Munoz asserted that by reversing the policy, YouTube did “not erase” the fact that Biden won his presidential contest against former President Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election fair and square. On top of that, he proclaimed that social media companies facilitated the spread of election fraud allegations.

There is perhaps some sanity being restored by Big Tech. With so many people getting disillusioned with the way politics and political discourse is deteriorating in the US and the broader West, there is a growing backlash against elite institutions.

While the concessions elites are making small, that does not mean we let up the pressure. The more heat the establishment faces, the more likely it is that we will witness meaningful reforms in the near future.
