Biden Regime Claims GOP Efforts to Defund ATF Will Help Mexican Cartels

The Biden regime believes that Congressional Republicans’ campaign to defund the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) actually helps Mexican cartels.
According to a NBC News report, former President Donald Trump has pushed for defunding federal law enforcement agencies, and Breitbart News reported that several Republican members of the United States House are working to halt certain ATF regulations — the pistol brace regulation and others — by cutting off funding to the measures, which would compel the ATF to stop enforcing them.
The Biden regime responded to Republican efforts to check the ATF by asserting that Republicans are not only obstructing the regime’s alleged fight against crime but also indirectly helping drug cartels to carry out their trafficking operations.
White House spokesperson Andrew Bates issued a statement defending his assertion:
MAGA Republican extremism in Congress is a growing threat to the fight against violent crime and fentanyl trafficking. President Biden is working hard to prevent the flow of firearms into the hands of drug cartels, as part of a comprehensive strategy to block the flow of fentanyl into the United States. But hardcore MAGA members of Congress are doing everything they can to thwart these efforts.
Bates continued, “MAGA Republicans in Congress are trying to defund and abolish the ATF, the federal law enforcement agency responsible for helping stop the flow of firearms into the hands of gun traffickers.”
Bates claimed that “assault weapons purchased in the United States are arming drug cartels and enabling them to outgun law enforcement.”
AWR Hawkins of Breitbart News raised a good point about one key omission Bates made about the ATF:
Bates did not mention the Obama Administration’s Operation Fast & Furious, in which the administration purposefully smuggled firearms into Mexico under the guise of tracking the firearms to catch cartel kingpins.
The ATF is a corrupt institution that constantly threatens the right to bear arms in America. It not only should be defunded but also abolished in the long-term. That should be the main fight for the Right to take on over the next few decades on Second Amendment matters.
No more marginal reforms. It’s time that the hammer be dropped on institutions that work against the interests of Middle Americans.
