Bill Maher Blasted After Rooting for Recession

Friday night, washed up comedian Bill Maher made some deranged comments on his HBO show “Real Time with Bill Maher,” and is now being crushed by the media.

“I feel like the bottom has to fall out at some point,” said Maher. “By the way, I’m hoping for it because one way you get rid of Trump is a crashing economy. So please, bring on the recession,” he continued.

Bill Maher is actively rooting for an economic downturn in order to turn the tide against Trump, who has historic approval ratings that are better than both Obama and Reagan at this point in their respective terms.

“Sorry if that hurts people but it’s either root for a recession or you lose your democracy,” Maher said.

Maher, who has a $100 million net worth, does not care if the average person suffers, as long as he can virtue signal to his liberal media friends about how awful Trump is.

Many conservatives were not having it:

“If you doubt there’s such a thing as Trump Derangement Syndrome, read this,” said Fox’s Senior Political Correspondent Brit Hume on Twitter.

Actor James Woods fired back at Maher too.

“Screw Americans, as long as it hurts Trump,” he said, concisely summing up Maher’s position.

Even the wishy-washy Piers Morgan recognized the lunacy in Maher’s comments, referring to them as “treason.”

Even CNN published an opinion piece slamming Maher.

“Not only were Maher’s comments cruel and callous, they again reveal his superficial analysis of issues,” wrote Dean Obeidallah. “Specifically, when he stated: ‘It’s either root for a recession or you lose your democracy.’ Maher clearly has no clue about history if he thinks an economic collapse will help safeguard our democracy.”
Holding a position that is further left of CNN – outside of being a nearly impossible feat to accomplish – is a foolish one, evidenced by the backlash that Maher has received.
