Black US Army Private Who Deserted To North Korea Is Facing Child Porn and Desertion Charges
United States Army defector Travis King has received charges from military authorities for multiple criminal acts such as desertion and the solicitation of child pornography after fleeing into North Korea back in July.
Per court records acquired by Reuters, the case against King features eight distinct charges under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
King was let loose in September after spending over two months in North Korean custody. He was subsequently flown to a Texas military hospital on September 28, 2023 for a health check up. According to Army authorities, King had plans of abandoning the military for good when he abandoned his post in South Korea and went across the demilitarized zone.
The Army has accused King of a wide array of misconduct prior to his defection into North Korea, which includes an allegation of attempting to escape from US military custody back in October 2022
The same month he fled his post, King was also alleged to have been caught in possession of child pornography and requested another Snapchat user to “knowingly and willingly produce child pornography.”
King was also slapped with charges of assault and insubordination for leaving his base after curfew and drinking alcohol in violation of regulations set forth by the Army.
Back in September 2022, King faced an accusation of punching a man multiple times in the face at a club. Two weeks after that, King was arrested for manifesting “aggressive behavior” and while getting arrested, allegedly damaging the backseat of a police car.
Prior to being subjected to two assault charges, King was facing the prospect of military disciplinary charges and a dishonorable discharge in the US.
According to a report from the New York Post, King said to investigators that he decided to flock to North Korea owing to the fact that he “harbored ill feelings against inhuman treatment and racial discrimination within the US Army.”
King declared he was “disillusioned at the unequal American society.”
The US military was once a respected institution that inspired fear among its enemies — foreign and domestic. However, it has degraded into a low-status battering ram for DC elites. Moreover, it’s plagued with the same rot that other American institutions are facing.
King’s case shows how the military is not exempt from the degenerate trends that have swept the US over the last few decades. More of these cases will transpire if political elites don’t get their acts together and start cleaning up shop in the military and other government entities.
