Border Protection Officer is Charged for Human Smuggling
A former Customs and Border Protection officer who was previously charged with bribery and drug trafficking recently received an indictment for smuggling foreign migrants into the United States.
Emanuel Celedon worked at the Laredo Port of Entry in South Texas when these alleged offenses took place.
Celedon is specifically accused of smuggling four illegal alien invaders into the US. on two dates in September and November, per the US Department of Justice.
On top of that, a resident in Cotulla, Texas received charges for committing four counts of human smuggling.
Back in November, Celedon received an indictment for committing two counts of bribery and two counts of trying to import cocaine.
Authorities contend that on two occasions in October, Celedon took cash in exchange for allowing a person to transport a substance he assumed was several kilograms of cocaine into the US from Mexico via the Laredo Port of Entry without going through inspection.
Two Mexican nationals illegally living in the US also received charges in this case.
If he is convicted of the human smuggling charges, Celedon could stare down the prospect of spending 40 years in federal prison. Additionally, drug trafficking charges feature a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison, and the bribery charges each come with 15 years of prison time.
The US is corrupt to the core. From the federal government down to local governing bodies, corruption is growing left and right. Once respected institutions have now become dilapidated and are marked by the pettiest forms of corruption.
Cleaning up corruption is critical for the US to remain a functioning polity. If this corruption continues, the US will end up being another civilization that disappears into the abyss of imperial decline.
