BREAKING: Former Officer Derek Chauvin Sentenced To 21 Years Of Prison
Will we be seeing a new round of ‘justice for George Floyd’ riots after this news? Perhaps that is possible after former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was sentenced on Thursday to 21 years in federal prison over charges of violating the civil rights of George Floyd.
Fox News reports that Chauvin pleaded guilty in December to civil rights violations following the arrest of Floyd on May 25, 2020, during which the former officer pressed his knee by Floyd’s neck for over nine minutes. Officers had responded to the scene at the time over allegations that Floyd had been pushing counterfeit money.
Derek Chauvin was found guilty of three criminal charges on April 20, 2021: second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter, reported The Post Millenial. The former officer was sentenced to 22 and a half years at the time.
Chauvin was apparently looking at a life sentence had he not accepted the federal plea agreement on the civil rights charges.
He reportedly admitted to having “willfully deprived Floyd of his right to be free from unreasonable seizure, including unreasonable force by a police officer.”
The incident with Chuavin and George Floyd led to the historic Black Lives Matter riots of 2020. The ensuing damage was devastating, with upwards of 30 deaths, numerous injuries, and over 1 billion dollars in damage culminating nationwide.

Former Chuavin partners Tou Thao, J. Alexander Keung, and Thomas Lane, all of whom were present that day, were convicted of federal civil rights charges back in February as well.
White House occupant Joe Biden commented on the Chauvin trial’s results at the time, saying it was the “right verdict, which is I think it’s overwhelming in my view. I wouldn’t say that unless the jury was sequestered now, not hearing me say that.”
