British Professor Calls for Censoring Joe Rogan and Douglas Murray on the Grounds of Fighting “Terrorism”
A British university course recently designed for government employees on “Countering Terrorism” featured a call for the censorship of world-renowned podcast host Joe Rogan and neoconservative journalist Douglas Murray.
Anna Stanley, who recently exited the UK Foreign Office, said she participated in the three-day “Issues in Countering Terrorism” course in 2023 at King’s College London in addition with other staff members from the British Foreign Office, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Defense, and Home Office, according to a report from Fathom Journal.
“The course was a deeply, existentially depressing experience,” Stanley declared in the journal.
Professors and researchers who gave lectures before the class, some former government officials, stressed that “Islamist extremism is exaggerated” and gave “right-wing extremism … more weight than is proportionate,” she observed.
Stanley remembered one lecturer putting forward the idea of finding creative methods to censor popular, “far right” figures such as Murray, a British political commentator and author, and Rogan, the United States’ most popular podcast host.
She stated:
“To what extent should Joe Rogan and Douglas Murray be suppressed?’ he inquired. ‘They have millions of followers. To de-platform them would cause issues.’”
In concluding his talk, the lecturer said to a room filled with government professionals, “so, society needs to find other ways to suppress them.”
In an X post published on January 11, 2024, Murray said the lecturer was Peter Neumann, who is a professor of security studies at King’s College London.
Murray said in an interview for Talk TV that the college should suspend Neumann and carry out an “urgent” investigation. He also stated that his lawyers are reviewing the matter.
Rogan and Murray are from extremists. In the latter’s case, Murray is a milquetoast neocon that very much aligns with a large segment of the ruling class’ agenda. Yet, there are still many factions of the ruling class who still view the likes of Murray as an existential threat that has to be censored.
Perhaps the mainstream reconsider the idea of classical liberalism and consider national populism as a more viable alternative for confronting the Left. The classical liberalism of yesteryear is a recipe for getting dominated by opponents who could care less about social freedoms.
