California Democrat Puts Forward Excise Tax on Ammo & Guns
California Assemblyman Jesse Gabriel, a Democrat, recently pushed legislation to impose an 11% excise tax on firearm and ammunition sales in the Golden State.
Gun control proponents have been ecstatic about Gabriel’s bill potentially bringing in roughly $160 million in yearly revenue for the California state government, per a report by the Sacramento Bee.
The tax would be applicable to gun and ammo makers in addition to gun dealers and ammo vendors.
Former Assemblyman Marc Levine believes Gabriel’s excise tax has a strong chance of passing due to how California is “facing a $31.5 billion budget gap.”
25 Democrat congressmen in the United States House previously introduced a 1000% excise tax on AR-15s and other so-called “assault weapons.” Such a tax would make it cost prohibitive for citizens to acquire firearms and ammo. This is just one of many ways that gun rights could be undermined through government policy.
California is the posterchild of radical gun control measures. It’s ranked in 48th place according to Guns & Ammo magazine’s best states for gun owners rankings. So it’s only natural that the craziest of gun control policies will come from there.
California is long gone from the Right. However, it’s up to Right to make sure that their respective states don’t fall down the path of California.
