Car Dealers are Pushing for President Joe Biden to Stop More Stringent Pollution Regulations
Over 4,700 car dealerships across the United States have called on President Joe Biden in a letter sent on January 25, 2024 to stop the Environmental Protection Agency’s attempts to implement more stringent vehicle pollution regulations.
The letter comes a few weeks prior to the agency’s expected ruling on the tailpipe-emissions plan, which tackles both climate change and toxic substances that harm individuals.
This is the second letter that car dealers have sent to the Biden regime in two months on the EPA’s forthcoming ruling, which could institutionalize the agency’s most stringent tailpipe emissions restrictions, which were proposed back in April 2023. The dealerships said on January 25 that the Biden regime did not respond to their first letter sent on November 28.
“President Biden is investing in a future that is made in America by American workers as we position the United States to lead the clean energy future,” a White House spokesperson declared in a statement on January 25 “More Americans are buying EVs every day—with EV sales rising faster than traditional gas-powered cars—as the President’s Inflation Reduction Act makes EVs more affordable and helps Americans save money when driving.”
The Biden regime has an ambitious plan to slash greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030. Part of the Biden regime’s focus is on the transportation sector. According to the EPA, 58% of the greenhouse emissions come from passenger cars and trucks. The regulation also restricts hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter into the air.
The EPA claims that its proposed regulations could mean that up to two out of every three vehicles sold in the US automotive market will be electric by 2032.
Roughly 4,000 dealerships of the almost 17,000 franchised shops across the nation called on the Biden regime to “tap the brakes” on the EPA proposal in the letter authored in November, describing the rules as an “electric vehicle mandate.”
In the most recent letter, the dealerships urged the Biden regime to “hit the brakes” entirely, alluding to several factors that they say point to a slower rate of electric vehicle adoption. The signers claimed that the supply of EVs on dealer lots is double that of internal combustion engine vehicles, and that they will be incapable of selling EVs at the rate the regulations would mandate.
“It is uncontestable that the combination of fewer tax incentives, a woefully inadequate charging infrastructure, and insufficient consumer demand makes the proposed electric vehicle mandate completely unrealistic,” the letter declared.
No matter how one slices it, the Biden regime is laboring diligently to destroy gas-powered vehicles. While they can’t outright ban them, the radical environmentalist crowd can effectively price average Americans out of the gas-powered car market through burdensome regulations.
