China Is Against NATO Intervention in the Indo-Pacific Region
On April 14, 2023, Tan Kefei, spokesperson for China’s Ministry of National Defense, announced that China stands against NATO meddling in the Indo-Pacific region.
“China stands strongly against NATO’s interference into Asia-Pacific affairs under the pretext of the so-called Chinese challenge and the establishment of an Asia-Pacific alternative to NATO,” he stated.
He emphasized that the Asia-Pacific region “must not turn into a chessboard for geopolitical rivalry” and urged NATO member nations to discard “their Cold War mentality” and exercise restraint with regards to China’s role in the region
While China has some explaining to do with regards to how it weaponizes immigration and uses sketchy trade practices, military conflict is simply a non-starter. NATO has already caused great havoc in Europe and Afghanistan. The Russo-Ukrainian war already demonstrates NATO’s reckless ethos, as NATO played a large role laying the groundwork for this conflict.
Given its track record of geopolitical chaos, NATO getting involved in Asia only spells more trouble for international stability. Let’s hope cooler heads prevail in the West and Western leaders find nationalist alternatives to dealing with China that don’t consist of bellicose actions directed towards it.
