China is Boosting Warplane Production at Alarming Rates

According to a report by the Global Times, China’s aviation industry ended 2023 with warplane production that surpassed expectations.

Subsidiaries of the state-owned Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), including the Chengdu Aircraft Industrial (Group) Co Ltd (CAC), Xi’an Aircraft Industry Group Company Ltd (XAC) and Shenyang Aircraft Company Limited (SAC), had surpassed targets in their year batch production and delivery missions, per an AVIC press release posted in its WeChat account at the end of 2023.

On December 27, 2023 CAC delivered its last fighter jet. The press release featured a photo illustrating the takeoff of a J-20 stealth fighter jet, a leading product of CAC, which is based in Chengdu.

XAC’s last test flight in 2023 for XAC was carried out on December 20, per the press release.  XAC is renowned for building Y-20 strategic transport aircraft and H-6 series bombers.

SAC concluded its yearly batch production and test flight missions on November 25 and broke a new record, the press release announced, showing off a photo of employees working on a J-15 fighter jet. SAC has built its reputation for producing the FC-31 stealth fighter jet.

Per the press release, the aircraft manufacturers are on a mission to expedite the modernization of aviation equipment development and make greater contributions to reaching the centennial goal of the PLA in 2027.

Other AVIC subsidiaries, which includes those tasked with building special mission aircraft, helicopters, amphibious aircraft, missiles and civilian aircraft, also finished their yearly scientific research and production missions, the press release noted.

The growing warplane production China is carrying out comes during a time when China is bolstering military spending in preparation for a potential confrontation with the United States.

After all, the US is making a pivot to Asia, which increases the likelihood of a military clash between the two nuclear powers.

Cooler heads need to prevail here. The last thing this planet needs is for a great power conflict to break out.

An America First approach of immigration restriction imposed on Chinese nationals and decoupling of trade with China is needed to deal with the China question in a peaceful manner.
