China Takes Retaliatory Measures Against An American Company and Two Individuals for US Sanctioning China

The Chinese government recently announced countermeasures against a United States company and two individuals that have gathered sensitive information for a long time to provide evidence for illegal sanctions by the US.

This move came after the US recently added two Chinese officials and three Chinese companies to a sanction list alluding to so-called human rights concerns.

US intelligence data company Kharon, Edmund Xu, director of investigations of Kharon, and Nicole Morgret, a former researcher from Center for Advanced Defense Studies, will be banned from entering China, per an announcement made by Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning on December 25, 2023.

The Chinese government  plans on freezing Kharon’s property along with the property of the two people living in China, which includes their movable and immovable property, and bans organizations and individuals in China from engaging in transactions and cooperating with them.

Back in December, US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control made an announcement of its decision to sanction two Chinese officials for their alleged connections to human rights abuses. In the meantime, the US Department of Homeland Security added three more Chinese companies to the so-called “Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act” (UFLPA) blacklist.

As a response, Mao said that the US manufactured and disseminated false narratives concerning China’s Xinjiang region, imposed illegal sanctions on Chinese officials and companies under the guise of human rights issues in the region, vigorously interfering in China’s domestic affairs, seriously infringing international law and basic norms of international relations, thereby significantly sullying China’s image, and seriously undermining the rights and interests of the Chinese officials and companies involved.

The Chineses government firmly stands against and strongly condemns this action and has sent a stern message to the US, Mao announced. The Chinese government urged the US to stop slandering and sneaking China, repeal the illegal unilateral sanctions against Chinese officials and companies, and halt the implementation of legislation.

In conclusion, the spokesperson said that if the US doesn’t reverse the sanctions course, China will continue imposing retaliatory measures against the US.

If the US refuses to change course, the Chinese government will not back down and will respond in kind, the spokesperson said.

Clearly, the US and China are on a collision course. The US is hellbent on rolling back Chinese influence and it’s more than ready to use sanctions and military build-ups to achieve this goal.

If there is no course correction here, the US could potentially find itself in a nuclear conflict with another nuclear power — a truly catastrophic scenario for world peace.
