Congress Passes Legislation to Prevent Any President From Unilaterally Leaving NATO

Congress recently passed legislation that would bar any president from withdrawing the United States from NATO without receiving the approval of the Senate or an Act of Congress.

This bill was pushed by Virginia Senator Tim Kaine and Florida Senator Marco Rubio and was included in the annual National Defense Authorization Act. It was subsequently passed on December 14, 2023 and is expected to receive President Joe Biden’s signature.

This bill highlights the DC ruling class’s commitment to the NATO alliance, which many viewed to be in jeopardy throughout the presidency of former President Donald Trump.

The alliance has been bolstered since Russia launched its military incursion in Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

“NATO has held strong in response to [Russian President Vladimir] Putin’s war in Ukraine and rising challenges around the world,” Kaine declared in a statement. He continued by noting that the legislation “reaffirms U.S. support for this crucial alliance that is foundational for our national security. It also sends a strong message to authoritarians around the world that the free world remains united.”

Rubio declared that the measure functioned as a key tool for congressional oversight.

“We must ensure we are protecting our national interests and protecting the security of our democratic allies,” he said in a statement.

The Biden regime has continued strengthening the military alliance during his term, sending troops and military resources to Europe to confront Russia. Biden has also presided over the expansion of NATO with the ascension of Finland and the ongoing attempts to add Sweden to the alliance.

This move shows that the DC ruling class is not confident in sitting President Joe Biden’s ability to win re-election. Moreover, the ruling class still believes that Trump will have the US exit NATO. They’re legitimately scared of his America First vision.

Hopefully, if re-elected, Trump gets NATO out of this entangling alliance. It’s the kind of alliance that the Founding Fathers warned about, and the US’s continued membership in it will inevitably put the country on the path to nuclear war with the likes of China and Russia.

Only a disruptive force can prevent that kind of a geopolitical doomsday scenario. Donald Trump could potentially serve that role.
