Congressman Warns That SEC’s Investigation of Rumble Could Influence 2024 Election
Florida Congressman Byron Donalds believes that the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)’s recent investigation of free speech platform, Rumble, is highly political in nature. In fact, he believes that such a probe could have a negative impact on the 2024 presidential election.
In contrast to platforms such as Facebook and YouTube, Rumble has positioned itself as a champion of free speech. The current social media ecosystem is largely pro-censorship.
Donald’s fears of censorship were manifested in a letter he sent to SEC chairman, Gary Gensler.
The investigation of Rumble largely deals with the company’s user metrics. Per a report from investment group Culper Research, Rumble is allegedly juicing its reported monthly active user numbers. Of interest, Culper Research has a short position in Rumble (in other words, it would make handsome profits if Rumble’s stock plummets.)
Ever since these allegations surfaced, Rumble’s stock price has surged insignificantly, which is a clear demonstration of consumer and investor confidence in the company.
As the presidential election is rapidly approaching, Donald is particularly worried about the probe’s timing. Based on the timing of this investigation, it appears that it is being conducted to restrict Rumble’s impact in the 2024 presidential election cycle via a costly litigation process.
Donalds wants Gensler to clarify if Culper Research and the SEC had correspondence with each other and if the SEC’s decision to launch a probe into Rumble was influenced by Culper Research firm’s report. On top of that, he asked if there was the potential for interference by the Biden regime in the current SEC investigation into Rumble.
These are all very valid questions.
Joe Biden is clearly taking a beating in the polls. Additionally, many Democrat leaders and pundits believe that he does not have what it takes to stave off Trump. As a result, his regime is beginning to use every tool — political coercion, social media censorship, etc. — to ensure that he cruises to victory in November.
The US is in a sensitive moment in its history where whatever trappings of republican rule of law characterized its politics of yore are longer present.
The Right must adapt to this new environment and be ready to respond assertively against this unique form of tyranny. Our posterity is counting on us to get this political challenge right.
