Defense Department’s Special Ops Office Held Book Discussion On “Far Right” Domestic Terrorism

The Daily Caller reported that a Department of Defense (DOD) office extended invitations to two experts to talk about their new book on the supposed threat far-right terrorism poses in the US as part of a new series featuring guest speakers.

The invitation appeared to be extended through email to “all” members of SO/LIC. This acronym refers to the Defense Department’s presiding over special operations and irregular warfare, per screenshots that the Daily Caller was able to obtain. Bruce Hoffman, a Georgetown University professor and senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), and Jacob Ware, a research fellow at CFR, were slated to present their book on January 30, 2024 to present their book. This book aims to track right-wing domestic terrorism across the history of the US. It also labeled the Ku Klux Klan and several groups who participated in the January 6 storming of the Capitol as terrorists.

“Reminder to please join us at 1200 tomorrow morning via Teams (link below) for this virtual brown bag book talk event — renowned terrorism scholars Dr. Bruce Hoffman and Jacob Ware. Their new book, God, Guns, and Sedition: Far-Right Terrorism in America was released earlier this month,” the invitation, which was dated on January 29 reads.

“This is the first of what we hope will be a series of brown bag events featuring internal and external speakers,” it stated. This invitation email was signed by the “FO Team.”

“Serious acts of terrorism have erupted from violent American far-right extremists in recent years, including the 2015 mass murder at a historic Black church in Charleston and the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol,” the book synopsis, which was featured in the email, said.

Despite all the hysteria with respect to January 6 protesters, none of the January 6 demonstrators have received convictions for domestic terrorism laws.

“They are the latest flashpoints in a process that has been unfolding for decades, in which vast conspiracy theories and radical ideologies such as white supremacism, racism, antisemitism, xenophobia, and hostility to government converge into a deadly threat to democracy,” it read. “This talk, derived from the speakers’ new book, God, Guns, and Sedition (Columbia Univ. Press) discusses the rise of far-right terrorism in the United States, the impact of U.S. domestic terrorism on our foreign policy and our allies, and policy recommendations to far-right terrorism.”

Overall, what is being promoted by this book has very little evidence to back up its claims. It’s all about creating a narrative about right-wing activists in order to justify their persecution by the state.
