Last week, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) quietly visited Iowa, an important battleground state, as he considers a potential bid for the presidency in 2020.

According to CNN, Swalwell spoke at Progress Iowa’s holiday party in Des Moines last Thursday. He appeared there with Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) and South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg.

“It’s daunting,” Swalwell reportedly said. “But I really believe there has to be a go big, be bold candidate who represents the next generation in the field.”

Swalwell noted that he would be using the Christmas holiday to discuss with his family whether a 2020 run made sense.

“I don’t want to do it half-assed,” he continued. “I would want it to be a serious campaign that could be a winning campaign.”

Swalwell is a member of the radically anti-Second Amendment leftist crowd, and recently found himself in hot water after threatening to use nuclear weapons against American citizens.

Big League Politics reported:

In a Friday Tweet, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) set the internet on fire by insinuating that the federal government would use nuclear weapons against citizens who rebelled against it.

In May, NBC reported that Swalwell proposed a gun buyback that would force Americans to sell semiautomatic rifles to the government or face prosecution. Newsmax host John Cardillo shared the article on Friday, prompting combat veteran and right wing commentator Joe Biggs to claim that a civil war would break out if the federal government actually tried to confiscate weapons.

“So basically @RepSwalwell wants a war. Because that’s what you would get. You’re outta your f****** mind if you think I’ll give up my rights and give the gov all the power,” Biggs said.

That prompted an accidentally honest response from Swalwell.

“And it would be a short war my friend. The government has nukes. Too many of them. But they’re legit. I’m sure if we talked we could find common ground to protect our families and communities,” Swalwell said.

The California Representative is also known for consistently making a fool out of himself on “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”

Swalwell’s name hasn’t even made an appearance in early Democratic polls, which suggest that Texas State Rep. Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke, a failed U.S. Senate candidate, former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) are the top contenders.

Lower on the list are Democratic Sens. Kamala Harris of California, Cory Booker of New Jersey and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts. Creepy porn lawyer Michael Avenatti had garnered some votes prior to announcing that he would not run.
