Department of Justice Drops Chinese Anti-Espionage Program….Because Racism

On February 23, 2022, the Biden Administration shut down a Justice Department program that specialized in tackling Chinese espionage. The Biden administration made the decision after several criminal cases and accusations that it bungled. These cases allegedly involved incidents of racial profiling.

Government officials revealed that the China Initiative, which was first established in 2018 was being scrapped due to its perception of unfairly depicting Chinese Americans and residents of Chinese origin as disloyal.

“By grouping cases under the China Initiative rubric, we helped give rise to a harmful perception that the department applies a lower standard to investigate and prosecute criminal conduct related to that country or that we in some way view people with racial, ethnic or familial ties to China differently,” Assistant Attorney General for National Security Matthew Olsen declared in recent statements.

The DOJ’s leading national security office defended the decision by noting that it “amounted to a reframing and recalibration — not an abandonment — of a muscular law enforcement response to the national security threat posed by the People’s Republic of China,” per a Politico report.

“DOJ will no longer use the framework of the China Initiative to organize or to describe our efforts to counter threats by the PRC government,” Olsen said to reporters on February 23. “We are ending the China Initiative.”

Olsen stated that department officials reached the conclusion that the enforcement program targeting China was ill-conceived and that instead should have been re-tooled as part of a broader program to counter threats that Russia, Iran, and other countries pose.

“I’m convinced that we need a broader approach, one that looks across all of these threats and uses all of our authorities to combat them,” he proclaimed.

Olsen insisted that scrapping the organizational framework of the China Initiative should not be viewed as a move to undermine what the Justice Department does to counter “nefarious efforts by the Chinese government to acquire high-tech secrets by illegal means and to intimidate dissidents and critics abroad.”

“The Department of Justice is going to continue to aggressively combat threats posed by the PRC government using investigations, prosecutions, the full range of tools at our disposal. I think our actions will speak for themselves,” he stated.

Former Attorney General Jeff Sessions rolled out the initiative on November 1, 2018. DOJ headquarters called on U.S. attorneys nationwide to allocate resources and time in building cases against individuals who conducted espionage for the Chinese government.

Several of the high-profile cases that this initiative took on involved criminal charges levied against professors and researchers in the U.S. over accusations that they concealed their involvement in Chinese government scientific development programs commonly known as “Thousand Talents.”

The Chinese Communist Party is smart. They will not follow in the footsteps of their imperial Japanese predecessors and try to use conventional forms of military expansionism to establish hegemony. They will take advantage of naive western countries drunk on multiculturalism, to exploit their immigration systems and trade policies in a way that makes the CCP stronger.

With regards to the former, they will use legal migration to embed Chinese intelligence assets in corporate, educational, and even military spaces to steal vital secrets that could potentially close the gap between the US and China when it comes to economic and military power.

By closing this program, the US will only embolden China. At this point, China won’t even need to fire a shot to surpass the U.S. It can bide its time and build the biggest fifth column ever within American shores that will guarantee a steady pipeline of stolen secrets and potentially carve out a de facto CCP statelet in the US.

This, not conventional warfare, is how China will beat the US in the race to the top. If we had a serious political class, we would have a full-blown immigration moratorium implemented. This is the most effective way of delaying China’s launch into hegemony.
